Beggin’ (Pilooski Re-Edit) – Frankie Valli

Adidas has impressed with their marketing campaigns many times. Currently their Originals campaign is being run with super high frequency. They have brought together some massive stars from music and sports and filmed what looks to be one of the coolest house parties that ever was, with everyone wearing their crispest adidas clothes and sneaks.

Boogie Studios were involved in the creation of this ad campaign and have several different remixes of the track posted on the Boogie Studios blog. Some of them are pretty neat! The original was recorded by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons in1967.

Pilooski is the DJ who put together the version that made the cut. His version is fresh, and thumpin’ and passionate. It gets me moving every time I hear it. Pilooski is currently globe trotting the world with gigs spattered all over the map. Check out Pilooski’s mySpace page for more details.

Raindrops (2009)

Pete Tong premiered Basement Jaxx’s new single, Raindrops, on the Essential Selection last week. Its a pretty neat track, in typical Basement Jaxx style. The new album is called Scars, and it is set to be released in May or June.

I’m posting this track for a particular Dance Fit instructor who likes Basement Jaxx. I think she’ll like this track because it’s a little bit country, and a whole lottta Jaxx.

El VueloHughes De Courson

Air Canada is currently running a particularly moving commercial with people all over the world painting airplanes in the air with their fingers. What makes the song moving is, of course, the music. This track was difficult to track down. The  lyrics of song are in a language I don’t know. The tittle El Vuelo is Spanish for The Flight, which is rather fitting for the commercial. The lyrics though, are definitely not in Spanish (I’m learning Spanish, slowly). One fellow over at YouTube is quite adamant that the language is Quechua. Quechua is a native language of Peru; the language of the Incas, to be more precise, the people who build Machu Picchu. I heard some Quechua while I was in Peru last year, and it is quite possible that the lyrics of this tune are in Quechua, but I can’t confirm this for sure.

Another detail that made this track difficult to track down is that its a cover. The song was originally written by Hughes De Courson, a classical composer. This is not his the original version, which was recorded by Fernando Lima on his 2007 album Pasion.  The version from the Air Canada commercial can be found on an album called Almost Pop: El Vuelo, of which I can only find on iTunes.

Enjoy!

Das Racist

Das Racist

This track landed in my inbox about a couple of weeks ago, but it took me some time to actually give it a listen. Now that I have, life will never be the same! Download this track with care! After your first listen, it will get stuck in you head, and you might find yourself singing it to old friends on the street, and then to your boyfriend’s family, barely able to control your enthusiasm.

Seriously, be warned! This song is retarded catchy, and funny!

The following is from the promo email I received:

Das Racist kicks your balls into outer space… these dudes are here to make hilarious topics like race relations, American consumerism, globalization and postcolonial-ass shit, fun again.”

Check out Brooklyn based Das Rasist’s myspace page, if you think you can handle it!

Bongos, Bleeps, & BaselinesZero DB

Zero Db’s track, from the album of the same name, Bongos Bleeps & Baselines , on Ninja Tune,  is off the hook… srsly! It has one of the deepest, thickest base drops that you’ll ever hear, with interesting bongo rhythms and those crazy beats. A female vocal sample keeps asking: “Are you swinging? Are you swaying?“. 60 minutes into this song I’d be mighty surprised if your answer was no, because this one gets me movin’ every time!

Bongo SongZongamin

Bongo Songby Zongamin is upbeat and full of many beats and rhythms, all layered over top of each other, with the bongo showcased above all others. Good times.

Bloops, Bleeps, Bongos & BrassCoconut Monkeyrocket

Like the other two songs on this list, this songs sounds just as the title suggests: lots of bloops, bleeps, bongos, and brass, with some funny vocal samples thrown in: “One of the most exciting sounds in the world, Bongo!” Indeed!

Britney, Don’t You Know it’s of the Earth?

Rolling Stone magazine reports today that the break in Britney Spear’s act at GM Place in Vancouver, BC was a result of Toxic plumes of marijuana smoke. After returning to the stage, and finishing her show, Spears addresses the crowd, “Drive Safe. Don’t smoke weed. Rock out with your cocks out.”

Hmm… Perhaps the pop-princess might like to share some of her precription pills with the rest of us, so that we might be able to get through her performances, which some young concert goers described as “the worst show I’ve ever seen” on Vancouver’s Breakfast Television the morning. Oh Britney… can you really not handle these normal concert conditions? I know all that lip-syncing is tough and all, but all of the other artists I have seen at GM Place have been able to handle the “ventilation”. At least you had the decency to finish the show after the air had cleared, with what those kids paid for tickets and all.

Here’s a fresh mix of Britney Spears‘ Circus, remixed by Friscia and LamboyBritney Spears – Circus (Friscia and Lamboy Mix)

Despite all of her faults, Spears does provide good fodder for all of the talented remixers out there!

May 15th Will Be A Green Day

Mah ha ha! Sometimes I kill myself with these post titles! But to the point!

Green Day have announced that they will be releasing their 5th studio,21st Century Breakdown,  album on May 15th this year. While I’m not terribly impressed with the fact that the first single was introduced via a sell-out cross promotion with the NCAA (story via Stereogum), and the single itself, at least the first 90 seconds, don’t make me feel, move, nor think, I am still excited about the upcoming  album… here’s why:

Green Day is politically charged: American Idiot and contemplative:  Wake Me Up When September Ends

They’re rebellious and good for moshing to: Minority (Do people still mosh these days?) and, they make me feel sentimental: Time of your Life

marching out of time
to my own beat now
the only way i know

I so know how you feel!! Rock on, my favourite trio from Berkeley!

And lastly, I’m looking forward to the next Green Day release because they’re crazy: Basket Case
