In For The Kill (Foamo‘s Skream Remix Bootleg) – La Roux

This track has intriguing rhythms accompanying Elly’s beautiful feminine vocals. The song is paradoxically both light and dark at the same time, making it a good listen.  La Roux’s self-titled debut album is due out this June. La Roux is offering a 2-pack (Quicksand & Fascination) for free download on their site. Check it out!

One Day (Surkin Remix) – The Juan Maclean

There are several remixes of One Day out there… this one tops them all, because of it’s beautiful handling of the main sample “One day baby, you’ll realize that I’m the… one day baby…”. The track has both modern hipster additions, and classic house music contributions; joining together to make a unique experience. The Juan MacLean is about to head into a rather extensive North American tour. Check out their website for more details.

Always Like This (James Rutledge Remix) – Bombay Bicycle Club

Bombay Bicycle Club

Bombay Bicycle Club

The original of this track is great… a highly listenable original. This remix is even better. It maintains the cool originality, throws in a little hipster ’80s flare, and keeps the listener interested by switching it up. The Bombay Bicycle Club have been around for a couple of years, and are about to release their first full length album, I Had the Blues But I Shook Them Loose in early July. Judging by the tracks streaming on Bombay Bicycle Club’s myspace page, I think it’s going to be a god one!

UPDATE: My file server was acting up a bit lately, my apologies to everyone who had trouble downloading.

Where’s all the hooligans?
The nasty music fans
Lets see you break some bits and make this pit a zoo again

One of the hardest working men in the biz is about to release his first official single in the UK late next month. It’s a collaboration with Example called Hooligans. The track has a hardcore vibe, as does the video, and the proclamation through out the song:

We came, We saw, We killed the crowd

Seeing the Ghost of Wintersleep

Weighty GhostWintersleep

The quintet from Nova Scotia have spent the greater part of this decade honing their sound, and now they are about to take their sound across the Atlantic. Wintersleep is scheduled to be on Zane Lowe’s show on the BBC next week, on Wednesday May 13th!

I’ve only just recently got into this band, but I really like what they have going on. Their latest and second album, Welcome to the Night Sky, was released in late 2007 in Canada, and then in November of last year in the US. The band’s website describe the album:

Each song in its own way points to the fact that sometimes looking too hard reveals things best left unseen. But still, hope grows beneath these sable clouds and distant stars, and a light that looms beyond them all

A truth that is sadly true, but yet beautiful at the same time.

CORRECTION: Wintersleep were not on Zane Lowe on the 13th. They did meet with Zane Lowe to record a Maida Vale session, which should be played on Zane’s show sometime in the near future.

I Love the Whole World

I’ve been loving life lately. Everywhere I look I see beauty, and my outlook of the future is bright. A wave of change has hit the continent (alright, I’ll admit that was a while ago), but it was Earth Day yesterday, and things are looking up. This planet is wonderful place, with so many experiences to be had, places to visit and people to meet! There is a particular commercial in regular airplay at the moment that shares my sentiment:

I love the whole world
It’s such an awesome place
Boom De Ya Da, Boom De Ya Da,
Boom De Ya Da!, Boom De Ya Da!

If I’m to be finding myself looking for gainful employment some time soon, I expect that Discovery Communications would be the first place I’d start the job hunt.  I have learned a great many things about this wondrous world from the now mighty conglomerate for the past 23 years since The Discovery Chanel was launched in 1985, and have been celebrating the wonders of the world ever since.

For your listening pleasure, here is Boomdeyada from Discovery Communications.

If you have some time to kill, check out these awesome pics of the big ball we call home.

Bonkers (2009)

Bonkers (2009)

I love the lyrics of this tune:

Some people think I’m bonkers
But I just think I’m free
Man I’m just living my life
There nothing crazy about me
Some people pay for thrills
but I get mine for free
Man I’m just living my life
There nothing crazy about me

Dizzee Rascal teamed up with Armand Van Helden to put together this fun and fearless track. The tune has a good shot of being one of the club hits this summer with its upbeat dancability, and and remixability. The track is set to be officially released on May 18th, and the supsequent Dizzee Rascal album, Tongue ‘n’ Cheek, is to be released this September. Mr. Rascal is touring all over the UK this summer… visit Dizzee Rascal’s mySpace page for more info.
