Oh My God (It Still Means a Lot to Me)The Wooden Sky

I just started listening to this young band from Toronto, Ontario. The Wooden Sky, formerly Friday Morning’s Regret, have a beautiful folk-rooted sound that has the ability to pull you from whatever you are doing to contemplate the lyrics sung so beautifully by Gavin Gardiner. The tune Oh My God (It Still Means a Lot to Me) is my favourite from the bands sophomore album, If I Don’t Come Home You’ll Know I’m Gone. Every time it ends, I want to hit the replay button!

Check out this live version of the same tune the band put together:

I’m not sure what it is about this song, but I can’t get it out of my head!

Perhaps its the way Drake sings “youda youda best, youda youda best“. I like it.

The song is from Drake’s debut album, So Far Gone. Pick up a copy at Amazon:

Horchata -Vampire Weekend

Vampire Weekend

Vampire Weekend

Tipped of by Pigeons and Planes this morning I discovered that Vampire Weekend are giving away the first track off their highly anticipated second release Contra, which is due to be released January 12th, 2010 in the US. Go give Vampire Weekend your email address if you’d like future updates from the band, or download it with absolutely no strings from VW, or from here.

The new tune is in Vampire Weekend’s unique style with the sounds global percussion, xylophones, and strings combined together in a playful way that makes you want to bounce around in time with the beat. I’m officially excited about the new album next year!

For those of you interested Horchata is a traditional drink latin roots. How it is make varies from region to region, and is sometimes made from almonds or sesame seeds.

Florence & the Machine hit up Ibiza this year… I wasn’t there, but I can say that it was bloody beautiful!

Check out this recording of the powerful songstress belting out her version of You go the love at Glastonbury this year.

And don’t miss this cover/remix hybrid of the Florence & the Machine cover by The XX, because it’s pretty neat.
