This Tide commercial touting the benefits of using the laundry soap in cold water effectively uses Digable Planets‘ 1993 song, Rebirth of Slick, with each new washer knob being turned to cold, we hear the cool Digable Planets vocals say: “I’m cool like dat”. Check it out the full track from Digable Planets first album Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time and Space), it’s pretty slick, as the title suggests.

Vampire Weekend - Cousins

I am finding it difficult to express how excited I am for Vampire Weekend’s sophmore album Contra to come out on January 12th next year! Until then, we can enjoy their promo track Horchata, which came out in early October, and the next single, available for download at Amazon, Cousins. There’s even a video:

Good times.

Indie hip hop duo N.A.S.A. earned some serious cred with me when they brought on Tom Waits to do some back up vocals on their track Spacious Thoughts. Check out the video that was released this week:

If you like what you hear, check out the N.A.S.A. ablum, Spirit of Apollo over at Amazon, as well as Tom Waits’ amazing live CD Glitter and Doom live.

HTC calling the Sinnerman

This new commercial for the newest HTC smartphone gets my attention everytime. You know the one, the one that says: “You don’t need to get a phone. You need a phone that gets you. And you. And you. And you”. I’ll admint that HTC phone looks pretty slick, but its the song playing in the background that has my heart. That tune, that probably has  your attention too, is Nina Simone’s 1965 version of the American traditional song Sinnerman, with Felix da Housecat’s remxing touch.

This now classic update was put together by Felix da Housecat for the first of a now 4 cd series Verve Remixed. Modern dj’s and producers mix up classic tunes from the Verve Records catalog equals really good stuff! Check out my post on the full Verve Remixed cd series.

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros

There’s a new service out there in the music industry called rVibe. This company is coming up with new ways to make money for the artists & musicians we love so dearly, while the dinosaurs at the top of the recording industry complain about dropping CD sales. rVibe broadcasts live concerts online. For a small fee, you can see your favorite bands play live, while hanging out in your pj’s!

Tomorrow, November 17th 2009, at 10pm Eastern time, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros will be performing at New York’s Bowery Ballroom. If you are in New York, go to the show! If not, spend 5 bucks to see it online, via rVibe! I believe you can watch the show after it’s done on an on demand basis as well.

Until tomorrow evening, enjoy this fun little ditty: Janglin by Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeors!
