The popular stroller manufacturer Bugaboo released this add to show it’s support for the Global Fund to eliminate AIDS in Africa. The song, which makes this ad so endearing, is one of my favourite tunes from the Guilemots Made Up Love Song #43 from their 2006 album Through the Windowpane available in all fine music outlets, including Amazon:
If you are a Canadian, you have likely seen this commercial for our national lottery many times. The commercial features the catchy tune Don’t Let Your Feet Touch Ground by Ash Koley, a band named after their Winnipeg born female singer.
The song was recently used by a young, patriotic group who, donned in Olympic red mittens, flash mobbed at Robson Square with a choreographed routine to the delight of the crowd. Check out the video:
Perhaps I’m biased because I really want a Toyota Prius, but I still love this commercial. It is creative, and uplifting. Who doesn’t like winter turning into spring? The ad features Petra Haden’s rendition of Let Your Love Flow, a song originally written in 1976 by one of Niel Diamond’s roadies Larry E. Williams.
This Tide commercial touting the benefits of using the laundry soap in cold water effectively uses Digable Planets‘ 1993 song, Rebirth of Slick, with each new washer knob being turned to cold, we hear the cool Digable Planets vocals say: “I’m cool like dat”. Check it out the full track from Digable Planets first album Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time and Space), it’s pretty slick, as the title suggests.
This new commercial for the newest HTC smartphone gets my attention everytime. You know the one, the one that says: “You don’t need to get a phone. You need a phone that gets you. And you. And you. And you”. I’ll admint that HTC phone looks pretty slick, but its the song playing in the background that has my heart. That tune, that probably has your attention too, is Nina Simone’s 1965 version of the American traditional song Sinnerman, with Felix da Housecat’s remxing touch.
This now classic update was put together by Felix da Housecat for the first of a now 4 cd series Verve Remixed. Modern dj’s and producers mix up classic tunes from the Verve Records catalog equals really good stuff! Check out my post on the full Verve Remixed cd series.
The funky tune setting the tone for the raucous collision in the ad above is the opening track from Groove Armada’s 2003 album Lovebox, which you can buy at Amazon if you like:
I’m completely against bottled water, as it’s a waste, and the tap water where I come from is delicious! Still though, this ad from Evian is pretty neat:
I’ve been watching the show Ad Persuasion, I love a great advert, and enjoy watching the pros critique them. The last episode I caught has a nifty commercial from telephone company, Vodafone in the UK, was featured. The innovative commercial introduces us to the Mayfly, who had the misfortune to have the life expectancy of one day. But the Mayfly embraces every moment of his life, leaf surfing, playing tennis with a buddy, juggling, and spending quality time with his lady friend. It really is a beautiful ad, with the tagline: Vodafone, make the most of now.
The commercial is enhanced by the song playing in the background, which happens to be one of my faves: Love Song by Canadian rapper, K-os. Check out the album the track is from, Joyful Rebellion, at Amazon, or Amazon UK. It has some other really great tracks on it!
Don’t forget to cherish every moment, just like our friend, the Mayfly!
