Yesterday was this blog’s 2nd birthday, since I haven’t gone to bed yet, it feels like today. I am perpetually floored by how quickly time speeds by. I’m proud of this little blog that could… a rather nice break from my everyday.

To celebrate, a bit late, but hey, I’m always late with birthdays anyways, I offer this tribute to Road 2 Nowhere: a collection of different versions of the blog’s inspiration: Talking Heads classic tune Road to Nowhere.

Road to Nowhere by Atom – An enchanting, light and airy version by Atom

Road to Nowhere by EditorsEditors bring a dark brooding feel to the classic.

Road to Nowhere by Nouvelle Vague – A beautiful, classically done version with sweet and soft female vocals by Nouvelle Vague

Road to Nowhere by David Byrne – My favourite live version by the man himself, David Byrne, recorded during An Acoustic Evening with David Byrne And Richard Thompson, March 24th, 1992 in New York.

And… the video that started it all:

And… the lyrics!

Well
we know where we're goin'
but we don't know where we've been.
And we know what we're knowing'
but we can't say what we've seen.
And we're not little children
and we know what we want.
And the future is certain
give us time to work it out.

We're on a road to nowhere
come on inside.
Takin' that ride to nowhere
we'll take that ride.
I'm feelin' okay this mornin'
and you know.
We're on the road to paradise
here we go
here we go.

We're on a road to nowhere
come on inside.
Takin' that ride to nowhere
we'll take that ride.
Maybe you wonder where you are
I don't care.
Here is where times is on our side
take you there
take you there.
We're on a road to nowhere -
We're on a road to nowhere -
We're on a road to nowhere -

There's a city in my mind
come along and take that ride

and it's all right
baby
it's all right.
And it's very far away
but it's growing day by day

and it's all right
baby
it's all right.
Would you like to come along
you can help me sing this song

and it's all right
baby
it's all right.
They can tell you what to do
but they'll make a foo lof you

and it's all right
baby
it's all right.

There's a city in my mind
come along and take that ride
...
We're on a road to nowhere - We're on a road to nowhere -
We're on a road to nowhere - We're on a road to nowhere.

And… the humours rendition of Road to Nowhere by Young @ Heart video.

Enjoy your travels on the road to nowhere!

I’m not Lazy!

I’m heading into a time of having too much to do… I’m not busy, my life is full! My big side project, List Central, is coming close to being ready to unleash upon the world wide web. Rounding 3rd base, and coming into the home stretch means it’s time for me to buckle down, put the petal to the metal, keep my nose to the grindstone, and not come up for air until its done!

This means that Road 2 Nowhere is going to have to take a hit. My posting regularity may drop… but since I love sharing good music I find with all of my lovely readers, I expect that more likely is that my post quality is going to drop. Less writing, less research. I’m giving myself permission to do less, and not feel guilty!

I promise you, I am not lazy, I’m doing other stuff.

Playing the Building

One of my favorite wacky geniuses has turned an old building into a musical instrument. David Byrne’s latest project is entitled “Playing the Building”, an art installation in which he’s connected various parts and pieces of the Battery Maritime Building in Manhattan to an old pump organ. The building can now be played like a piano!

Amazing, and beautifully strange!
